Developer qureate’s Dream C Club series spiritual successor Bunny Garden proves that people still crave ecchi video games, with the game being an overnight hit for the small developer, hitting 2nd on the Japanese Nintendo eShop (DL) and No. 1 on Japan’s Steam sales ranking.

The game starts off with an unemployed man getting tired of life before stumbling onto a bunny girl-themed hostess bar named Bunny Garden. The girls there manage to get him motivated and find a new job, and players have to guide the protagonist through a delicate balance of earning money and going to the bar to meet and woo one of the three main hostesses there – the endlessly gentle Kana, the genki gyaru Rin, or the quiet type Miuka.

The game was first released on Nintendo Switch last week with an announced Steam version, which got pushed forward to be released only a few days after the Switch version due to the booming success of the former.

The game’s culture seeps from all areas – from being able to ogle the girl’s panties while they are fetching drinks, to playing mini-games like a palm-pushing game (though the icons for the hands are suggestively placed on the oppai), Twister with increasingly suggestive poses, ASMR segments, and more. All this comes at a price though, as reality sinks in with the accumulated cost of spending at a hostess bar:

People are praising a return to form with these games on console, unabashedly proud of its premise and gameplay, with enough buzz around the game that the game trended on Twitter for a day and a half (partially thanks to no streaming limitations other than the ASMR sections). The success of the game possibly paves the way forward for Japan’s trickling stream of mainline console suggestive ecchi games, serving as a beacon for future games to come.
